Prof. Dr. Akın is a Member of Board of Directors and Director of Executive Committee of the METU MEMS Center. After his B.S. degree (with high honors) in 1987 at METU, Ankara, Turkey, he went to USA with a NATO Science Scholarship. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in EE from Univ. of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1989 and 1994. In 1995, 1998, and 2004, he has been employed as an Asst. Prof., Assoc. Prof., and Prof., in EEE Dept. at METU. His research interests include MEMS, microsystems technologies, infrared detectors and readout circuits, integrated sensors and transducers, and analog/digital IC design. He raised and managed over 60M USD funding from several national and international projects including FP6 (partner in AMICOM NoE), FP7 (coordinator of METU MEMS REGPOT), NATO, and NSF-USA projects. He has a total of 150 international journal and conference publications. He has served in various MEMS, EUROSENSORS, and TRANSDUCERS conferences as a committee member. He was the co-chair of IEEE MEMS Conf. held in Istanbul in 2006. He is the winner of the First Prize at 1994 Student VLSI Circuit Design Contest organized by Mentor, TI, HP, Sun, and Elect. Design Mag. He is the co-author of two gyroscope projects: i) which won the first prize award in the international design contest organized by DATE Conference and CMP in March 2001, and ii) which won the third prize award of 3‑D MEMS Design Challenge organized by MEMGen Corp. (currently, Microfabrica).
